In this historical genealogy, Colonel Forney Jr. goes beyond the typical genealogical data in charts and shares with the reader how his ancestors lived through historical events (covering four centuries) and the trials they endured. He also uncovered some fascinating individuals!
I shared this book with a local history-loving group whose members are conducting their own family history research and are considering writing their genealogy. I believe reading Forney’s book can help one find leads and data to begin writing their own. By doing so, one is providing a service by leaving an important historical document to pass on to their children, their communities, and unknown future generations.
Having grown up in the area where Forney’s ancestors finally settled, reading the latter chapters caused me to reminisce about my youth and everything that happened there growing up.
I also enjoy reading about American history, especially the British Colonial frontier and early United States which is covered in this book.
Overall, it is extremely interesting and heavily annotated, which provides its readers with ample sources to call upon to further their own research.
